COOL SHADES
I really enjoyed your articles focused on cosleeping (January–February 2009). I am an American now living in Switzerland, and a new mom to a seven-month-old girl.
I have decided to stop working and am staying at home to raise my daughter. We are avid cosleepers and carry our little girl everywhere, even into the Alps on back-country skis.
My style of attachment parenting is not very common here in Switzerland, and I have often felt very isolated, questioning if what I am doing is to the detriment of our daughter. I eagerly await my Mothering, as reading articles like those on cosleeping help reassure me that I am not alone and that my instincts are just fine!

ROYAL TREATMENT FOR NURSING MOM
Recently, my husband and I traveled to Toronto, Canada, with our two boys. While visiting the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), my two-year-old wanted to nurse. I looked at the museum map for a nursing room, like the ones at Disney World and at the Strong National Museum of Play. I did not see anything, so I went to the docent and said, “Excuse me, where is your nursing room?” The docent, dumbfounded, looked at me and my whining toddler and said, “Please wait here. I need to talk to my supervisor.” I was nervous she might return and say, “Your son is too old for our nursing room.” I was prepping myself for battle! Instead, she came back with a big smile and said, “I just wanted to confirm with my supervisor that we don’t have a nursing room. Rather, you are invited to nurse wherever you please in our museum.” Bravo to the ROM! This is a nursing policy that truly celebrates childhood.
