I snapped this precious photo two weeks ago, at my sister-in-law’s blessingway. she has been bringing her two-year-old daughter along to midwife visits, and apparently the little one has been paying very close attention. As we finished the blessingway, she came up to her mom with some “tools” and asked her to lift her shirt.

LOVE LETTERS
Our family recently took a weeklong vacation. Thanks to your encouragement, I breastfed my infant daughter easily and confidently throughout the trip, in airports, restaurants, museums, and hotel lobbies. Being able to feed my baby whenever and wherever made our traveling so easy and enjoyable!

I must applaud you for the smorgas-
bord of articles in the March–April 2009
issue. I enjoyed the different flavors
that you included, such as “Jumping
Off Cliffs,” by Nancy Meltzoff. Bravo
for her insight, and for sharing Jesse’s
story. Also, Julia Vandenoever’s pictures
of Timmy Conroy, in “The High Cost of
Autism,” were poignant. They looked
into his soul.

HOT LUNCH
I am Norwegian, my husband is American, and we are currently living in Norway with our ten-month-old son. Last Christmas, when I was heavily pregnant, my husband gifted me with a subscription to your magazine. For me, it has been a love story ever since. Attachment parenting is a rather new concept in Norway, but through Mothering I have found resources, knowledge,
and a community of like-minded mothers that have helped me stay true to my principles and ideas. I want to thank Mothering, its contributors, and its readers for what you do for such a large community of mothers around the world. I am enclosing a picture of us out skiing, taking a break to breastfeed in the tracks.

I just had my first child in November 2008. Two weeks before the due date, I backed out of the hospital birth and had him with a midwife at the birth center. This was the best decision I ever made. Your magazine, which I started getting at the recommendation of my doula, was a big part of helping me make that decision. Even though it was a 30-hour labor, I did it without drugs or interventions! My OB said I would have had a cesarean at the hospital.
